Barker’s Bistro Review
When somebody is arguing a seemingly invalid point you often hear the expression that they are ‘Barking up the wrong tree’ but I would say that in the case of Barkers statement regarding the experience and food that they offer “a relaxed atmosphere with great honest-to-goodness food” they are barking up the right tree!
I went to Barkers Bistro with my other half last Saturday night and upon our arrival we received a warm welcome and were seated to a very comfortable table.
Located in the scenic and seaside town of Blackrock, the décor of Barkers Bistro is clean and fresh and it pays homage to its location displaying black and white photo images from the early to mid-nineties of the locals both participating and viewing Springboard competitions in the Blackrock baths. This makes an interesting wait as your food is being cooked. These pictures also compliment the New York style brick walls of the Bistro. Having previously lived in New York I actually felt as if I was there as I was back there while in the Bistro. Live Jazz Music perfectly accompanies the décor and makes for a wonderful, relaxing evening.
The choices, while not dizzying- are more mostly meaty and delicious (Vegans and Vegeterians might be advised to avoid Barkers for meal times). The wine list is generous and this is always a plus when dining out. To start I optioned for the Pil Pil Prawns and my partner the Louisiana hot wings, having sampled the wings I can verify that they are not too hot, just right.
For the main and as a lover of filet steak it was only natural that I ordered the Filet of Mignon, my partner ordered the sirloin steak. The steaks are served with baked potato or skinny fries accompanied by a choice of pepper sauce, béarnaise or garlic butter. The filet of Mignon was cooked to perfection and both my partner and I agreed that they were the nicest steaks that we ever had.
They offer fresh desserts made in their bakery and there is a good choice. I optioned for the Mango cheesecake which was beautiful and my partner chose the chocolate mouse. Of course I tasted some of his dessert and I can verify that it was delicious, without being too heavy.
In conclusion I would recommend Barker’s to anybody, we had a wonderful evening and will be back there very soon.
