Freddy’s Bistro Limerick Review
I have been meaning to write this review for some time now and I am thrilled to finally take the time to do it. I was prompted to finally write this by a booking my hubby made here and Trip Advisor naming Freddy’s Bistro as one of the Top 10 Restaurants in Ireland and I have to say, I am not one bit surprised.
This is my experience of my visit to Fredd’y Bistro Limerick, it was with the hubby and it was fabulous.
Let me begin by saying that even though this is a truly fabulous place to visit it is by no means stuffy, The atmosphere is very relaxed and the setting is just perfect for a dinner for two style evening. Yes Freddy’s cater for parties of a lot more than two but if you are looking for that somewhere special to bring a loved one, you will really impress with a trip to Freddy’s.
The staff are chatty, they know each and every dish, they are not afraid to make recommendations. I was torn between a few mains and a few desserts and each time the server went through the things I like and made recommendations based on this. I went with his advise and I have one of the best meals that I have ever had in Limerick. Delicious from the very first bit to the last.
Appetisers: Hubby opted for the Fish cakes to start and I had their Madras Curry Prawns with scummy cumin scented flat bread. I have to say I tried both (as I always do) and I much preferred my choice, the fish cakes were grand but nothing out of this world, the prawns and flat bread on the other had were incredible, the prawns piping hot, jet still very tender and juicy, the curry was just fiery enough and the flat bread was perfect for mopping up the extra sauce.
The Mains: Hubby had the Fillet steak and I had the Hake, Hubby’s was a 8oz Fillet Steak with peppercorn sauce and mine was Pan fried Hake with Pea and Lemon Risotto, both were honest to god, amazing. I was torn between the steak and the fish, as I love both but as the steak was a fillet and I am more of a strip-loin fan, I went with the Hake and I am glad I did. I tasted the hubby’s steak and it was so tender, packed full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The Hake had a delicious crispy skin, the flesh was just cooked, the risotto creamy and tasty and all the sides were yummy. We added the Chips, Onion rings and braised red cabbage. When I return it will kill me to stay away from these choices but I do like to try new dishes all the time so I will have to.
Sweet Endings: At this stage we were both pretty full but as we sat and ate and chatted we spotted many of the desserts coming out for other diners and we both agreed that they all looked way too good not to be sampled. We played with the notion of sharing one for about 2 seconds and finally decided we needed one each!. This choice too time for both of us, I asked our server for his recommendations and he said the nutty pancake is the biggest seller on the menu and a personal favorite of his, so that was that, I was having the pancake and boy was he right, this was dessert heaven in my book, hot pancake, crunchy nuts, warm chocolate sauce and cool ice cream, it was everything I could have imagined and more. Hubby had the Sticky toffee pudding, hot sticky toffee pudding with lashings of toffee sauce and a scoop of delicious ice cream.
We sampled one or two of Treaty City Harris pale Ale and to begin with we had a Elderflower Prosecco Cocktail.
To summarize my Freddy’s Bistro Limerick Review:
Would I visit again?. Yes
Would I recommend others visit?. Yes
From the second we arrived to the moment we left, we had a beautiful dining experience, from the greeting, to being seated, to paying and all in between, it was as perfect a dining experience as you could have. Friendly yet not over baring staff. Food was in a league not many restaurants reach and the price was pretty good to boot. I am already looking forward to my next visit to Freddy’s Bistro Limerick. Do not put a visit here on the long finger, get booking and see for yourself how wonderful this spot really is.
