Home-Cook Hero 2015

Saturday the 7th of November is a day I will remember for so many amazing moments and one that today, I am very proud of because this was the day that all the Home-Cook Hero 2015 finalists gathered at the Cooks Academy in Dublin to re create their winning dishes.

The day began very early for me as I was part of the 1st round of cooks that needed to be at the academy by 8am, when we arrived we needed to have all our ingredients and items needed with us, so we were up very early packing and planning.

Initially it felt like being back in the Home ec room at school, all at our stations with the teacher watching our every move but I quickly relaxed even though the TV3 crew were there to film the event and we have judges walking around with clip boards, asking questions, watching and taken notes.

My dish was Clare’s Simple Steak sandwich, this was in the Easy Cheesy category sponsored by Dubliner Cheese. The dish turned out great but unfortunately it wasn’t the winning dish but to be top three was good enough for me.

After the cook off, I headed off to Avoca for some lunch and then onto Grafton St for a spot of Christmas shopping and then it was back to the Hotel for a fabulous awards night. The awards took place in the stunning Shelbourn Hotel, where we were wined and dined and entertained by TV3’s Martin King. The evening begun with a red carpet entrance where press pictures were taken, then into a very beautiful champagne reception where we listened some relaxing music, chatted and mingled and awaited out call into the dining room. The double doors opened to reveal this amazing space all set for us to enjoy the awards ahead.

The food was delicious and the wine sponsored by Cono Sur was not to shabby either, the company, the setting, the wine, the entertainment and food was all so good we partied until after 3.30am.

I wore a gold sequins gown from Goddiva, priced a just £90/€130 it was a real show stopper and everyone remarked on it. The bag was from Debenhams priced at just €14, bargin of the year!. Shoes (no one saw) from Coast at €77, earrings from Pluse accessories at just €4.

Hair was styled using a wand, a bit of back combing and a lot of hair spray.

Make up was a collection of MAC, Urban Decay and Paese.

We had such an amazing day and when the Home-Cook Hero awards open in 2016, I would encourage anyone to enter. It was such a fun experience. The show will be screened on TV3, once I know the date I will share this with you. I am delighted I entered Home-Cook Hero 2015.

The evening was topped off with these amazing hampers from Hampers and Co for all us finalists, what a lovely surprise.
