So my first and the most important tip is to check out your stash! What is in the cupboards? what have you in the fridge? what have you in the freezer? Check all this out and then sit down with a pen and paper and create a meal plan for the week. This will I promise you save you time, money and a lot of food waste.

With the meal plan write up a shopping list – I know it sounds like something the old ones do but again trust me, if you want to stick to a budget and you want to stop binning food then you must write this list. I look at the meal plan and then I look at the ingredients that I am missing and this becomes my shopping list.

By checking what you have, buy planing the meals for the week and by writing a list, you will save so much money and the constant debates everyday about “whats for dinner”, get the family involved, ask them to give you a meal they would like for the week ahead, it makes the person who cooks most nights life so much easier.

I began checking my stash last night and I now have my list and I will take this to the supermarket tonight.
